Her Smile

I never imagined that waiting for a single smile would be so exhilarating. Waiting, watching, waiting some more - just to see her express some delight in something, anything... me. One precious part of those "pre-smile" days, was the ability to see the smile in her eyes as she discovered the world around her- something I think we often overlook as we are accustomed to seeing toothy grins. While it was beautiful to see, still we waited - often smiling, laughing, doing anything we could think of that would solicit a smile from our sweet girl. Our cheeks would hurt and often we would laugh at our selves... just to see her smile. Then one day in November she smiled and has not stopped since... and still our cheeks hurt!
We, as any parents would, love to make our baby smile. From that sleepy grin she gives early in the morning to the pure delight she shows when her Daddy comes home. It's amazing what a little smile can do. She doesn't know how to "fake it" yet, so her smiles communicate in the absence of words- delight, joy, happiness and security.
So I wonder, if we as parents feel such pure joy at the very sight of our daughters delight, what must our Heavenly Father feel at our delight?
